BAIS POSTGRADUATE BURSARIES SCHEME 2008

The British Association for Irish Studies wishes to announce its 2008 bursary scheme to support Postgraduate research in Britain on topics of Irish interest. BAIS will award bursaries of £500-£1000 each to postgraduate students registered at universities in England , Wales or Scotland conducting research on any aspect of Irish Studies. Students may use the bursary for travel expenses, payment of fees, subsistence or other expenses related to the completion of their research projects. More information about the scheme is available at www.bais.ac.uk . Applicants must be members of the British Association for Irish Studies (or should join when they apply).

Applicants will be required to submit a completed Application Form together with two completed forms from referees, who will be required to send these direct to the Chair of the Bursaries Committee. Deadline for submission of Applications: 14 March 2008.

These awards will be announced in May 2008. The decision of the BAIS Postgraduate Bursaries Committee will be final.

Queen's University Belfast Postgraduate Studentships 2008

Queen's University Belfast is making the following postgraduate studentships
available for 2008 entry:

(1) Irish Studies International Research Studentships The University is offering two full-time Postgraduate studentships for research leading to the award of a PhD. Applications for these studentships are invited from non-EU students. These three year awards are available for research within the three thematic areas of Irish Studies (The three thematic areas are:
a) Ireland's Other Capital - Belfast : History, Representation, Reimagining;
b) Political Conflict, Violence and Human Rights;
c) Irishness in its Wider Setting : European and Global Perspectives.)
Studentships will cover both fees and stipend. Those wishing to apply for a studentship should contact the Admissions office at Queen's or apply on line for admission and an award through our website at

(2) University PhD Studentships Competition
The School of History and Anthropology has 2 studentships (3-years maintenance and full fees) open to applicants for any PhD programme in the School starting in September 2008. Both Overseas and EU (non-UK) residents applying for a place on the PhD programme, and indicating on their online applications that they wish to be considered for this competition, will be considered. Those wishing to apply for a studentship should apply on line for admission and an award through our website at http://pg.apply.qub.ac.uk/home/ . (3) Irish Studies International Research Initiative MA Bursaries Two International bursaries will be available for 2008 entry in any Irish-Studies related MA (including MA Irish History and MA Irish Studies).
These will be for one year and offer full fees and a maintenance award. They are open to all overseas (non-EU) applicants in these programmes. Those wishing to apply for a Bursary should contact the Admissions office at
